Tips for surviving travel sports leagues
If your kids take part in youth sports travel leagues, it can be stressful to balance between family time, work, relaxation and driving. Club athletics can have multiple games on weekends, and parents may have to drive hours after work on a Friday to get where they need to be. While the schedule is tightly packed, club athletics can be very beneficial for both parents and children. Here are a few tips to get you through these tough weekends.
Making friends with the other parents in the league is a must. During the season, you may be spending all your weekend time with these people. Building relationships will not only make the experience more enjoyable for you, you have others you can trust if you are feeling sick or are unable to make it one weekend.
Traveling at any level can be stressful on the family, and it may cause you to throw a normal schedule out the window. This means nutrition. While it can be tempting to go out to eat every weekend you're away, nutrition is crucial for youth athletes and the entire family.
During the season, don't forget to take breaks. Although the entire family is going away on weekends, your busy schedules don't leave much time for relaxing together. Plan a weekly movie or game night to stay grounded.
