Should girls be able to play with the boys?
It isn't new that people debate over whether or not girls should be allowed in boys sports, and it's a compelling argument from both sides. While some girls are physically capable to play with the guys, there are plenty of reasons why it may not be such a good idea, especially when it comes to contact sports like football and basketball.
Sam Gordon, a 9-year-old from Salt Lake City, proves that girls can be just as speedy on the field as the boys. After becoming an Internet sensation, Gordon has inspired young females across the nation to try playing with the boys.
But what about when girls enter high school, college or even the professional level of a sport? Despite having incredible talent, there are a lot of issues that can arise in coed sports. For starters, male and female body masses are far from similar, which could lead to injuries on the field.
It's estimated that about 1,600 girls in the United States play on high school football teams, so with time, it may be possible for female college-level leagues to come to the forefront of high school sports. Either way, there are plenty of young girls on the field today breaking barriers and stunning their friends and families.
