Keep kids active this summer
Kids love the summer, but even if they won't admit it, it gets boring after a while. Youth sports like baseball may have already ended for the season, while football and other fall athletics haven't begun. Try these ideas to keep kids active and healthy during the brief off-season.
Children are "always on," but limiting screen time and encouraging them to head outdoors can make a world of a difference. With obesity rates and health concerns rising in younger kids, there's no better time than now to push them out the door for some activity.
But for that to be successful, parents need to provide appropriate sports equipment. Pick up used items in whatever sports your child shows interest in so they can play whenever they want. Offer them a ride to a local basketball court or baseball field if necessary.
To increase kids' motivation, parents can challenge the entire family to get active. Keep track of everyone's progress in a place where the entire family can check it out, and offer an incentive like a "bonus" in their allowance or the chance to pick out a fun event for the family.
