January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month
Those who have always wanted to learn how to ski or snowboard may want to commit to giving it a try this month.Snowsports Industries America has declared January Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month (LSSM). Throughout the month, skiing and snowboarding areas throughout the country are offering free and low-priced deals on learn-to-ski programs and equipment rentals for both children and adults.
"Skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing offer a fun and healthy way to get outside and enjoy winter with family and friends," said Alice Pearce, president of Ski New Hampshire. "As our slogan says, 'Humans Were Never Meant to Hibernate.'"
In addition, the International Ski Federation has designated January 22 as World Snow Day, to encourage people of all ages to discover snow activities.
These outdoor activities offer individuals a great way to have fun and stay active during the winter months. According to Snowsports Industries America, 130-pound adult can burn 350 calories or more per hour skiing or snowboarding at a moderate pace.
