Easy ways to incorporate exercise into your routine
Getting more exercise is a common new year's resolution. While purchasing new or used fitness equipment to use at home is a great way to help make this goal a reality, experts say there are also many easy ways to incorporate more physical activity into your everyday routine. One of the simplest things to do is commit to walking more. Park further away from the entrance to your work or take a longer route to get wherever you may be walking. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Dr. Mitchell Hecht advises increasing the intensity to a brisk walk whenever possible.
Taking the stairs can also increase your fitness level. You may choose to walk or run, but fitness expert Denise Austin told The Huffington Post that skipping steps can help to tone the rear end regardless.
Those with desk jobs may want to consider taking short breaks throughout the day to get moving. Do some jumping jacks, push-ups or run in place to avoid becoming too sedentary. Austin also suggests keeping some weights at your desk to pump iron during conference calls or on breaks. Sitting on an exercise ball rather than a regular office chair helps to keep your abdominal muscles working as well.
Remember that incorporating more exercise into your daily life will benefit both your physical and mental well-being.
